Neonatal bloodstream infections remain a challenging medical problem to treat due to difficulties in determining appropriate antibiotic dosing. Standardized medical guidelines are often unable to account for the complexity of changing neonatal organ sizes and other concurrent medical treatments that impact antibiotic clearance rates. Digital twin models that successfully capture these features of neonatal physiology alongside bacterial evolutionary dynamics may allow for more personalized antibiotic dosing regimes.
